Käpfnach Coal Mine

A short 20-minute walk leads you to the unused coal mine. Discover the “Horgen underground”, an important part of local history. The guided tour lasts approximately two hours every Saturday at 1.00 PM.

Entrance fees:
Adults CHF 15.00, teenagers CHF 12.00, children CHF 8.00.
The museum pass is valid.

Hiking Tours

Take the local train in Horgen (S2) to Thalwil and continue your journey with the bus 240 to Hausen am Albis. After 45 minutes you will reach the starting point of a moderate hike through the Sihlwald. The trail leads you through the Sihlwald Wilderness Park with its impressive zoological complex featuring local wild animals. On the way you will find places to stop for refreshments and a possibility for a barbecue, as well as vantage points with views over the Lake of Zürich. After about three and a half hours of leisurely hiking, the trail leads you back to Horgen.

Take the local train in Horgen (S2) to Thalwil and continue your journey with the bus 240 to Hausen am Albis. After 45 minutes you will reach the starting point of a moderate hike through the Sihlwald. The trail leads you through the Sihlwald Wilderness Park with its impressive zoological complex featuring local wild animals. On the way you will find places to stop for refreshments and a possibility for a barbecue, as well as vantage points with views over the Lake of Zürich. After about three and a half hours of leisurely hiking, the trail leads you back to Horgen.

Boat trips

Just 5 minutes from the hotel you will reach the Lake of Zürich and the ship dock (on the lake side of the train station). From there, scheduled cruises are leaving at regular intervals on routes of various lengths across and along the Lake of Zürich. Of course, it is possible to get off and on at any stop along the route to explore new places.

Prices range from CHF 25.00 to CHF 40.00 for the round trip.
Tickets and meals are available on board.

Paddle-Wheel Steamers trip to Rapperswil

The trip from Zürich to Rapperswil with one of the paddle-wheel steamers “City of Zürich” or “City of Rapperswil” will take a good two hours. The historic small Town of Rapperswil offers much to be discovered as well as a wonderful view overlooking the lake and the mountains. During public city tours there is much to learn.

You can comfortably return to Horgen from Rapperswil by train (changing in Pfäffikon).

The trip from Zürich to Rapperswil with one of the paddle-wheel steamers “City of Zürich” or “City of Rapperswil” will take a good two hours. You can comfortably return to Horgen from Rapperswil by train (changing in Pfäffikon).

Gate to Hell (Höllgrotten) near Baar

Near the small town of Baar you will find natural caves called the “Höllgrotten” featuring fairy-tale like stalactites. You can get to Baar in approximately thirty minutes by train (changing in Thalwil). From the train station, the cave can only be reached by foot. Otherwise the caves can be easily reached by car over the “Hirzel pass”, which takes approximately half an hour.

The caves are open daily from April to the end of October from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Lucerne

This City contains well preserved medieval architecture and the famous wooden bridge sits amid snow-capped mountains on the Lake of Lucerne. Lucerne is easily accessible by train or car from Horgen, the trip will take approximately 45 minutes.
